Cosmetic Tattooing

Lip liner, gloss and lipstick have proved to be some of the beauty industry’s most popular products for quite some time now. Despite face masks still being worn in full effect in many places, lips have been the center of attention when it comes to beauty routines. (We can thank Kylie Jenner for that.) While the quest for a full pout may have begun with lip injections, beauty buffs have since found more non-invasive ways to fake volume with makeup — namely, by overlining with lip liner and mastering the art of blending.

Lip blushing is a form of tattooing, so it is important for your health and safety to go to a trained professional for this service

FAQs

The pain level is relatively low, with clients usually rating it a 2 or 3 out of 10. Here’s how the process works. After having a full consultation with your artist to discuss your goals, the drawing process begins.  A bright colored pencil is used to fill the lips, and once the client and artist agree upon the shape, the lips are outlined in white to give a clear indication of what will be tattooed. To ease any discomfort — a topical anesthetic — is then applied over the area, and you’ll have to rest with a closed mouth for about 15 to 20 minutes to allow for the numbing to take place.

From start to finish, the procedure takes about an hour and a half. Right after your appointment, your lips will appear much darker than they’ll look in their healed state.  At inked microblading parlor we’ve typically found the healed color will appear about 30 to 50 percent lighter than the initial results.

If you have severely chapped lips in the winter or if you’re a sun goddess in the summer, it’s a good idea to wait out the season and allow your lips time to recover. Make sure to prep lips a few days before your tattoo with daily applications of lip scrub and balm.

It is important to choose a licensed technician or an artist with certifications in blushing and with sterile technique and experience. Most side effects of lip blushing are mild. There is some swelling immediately after the procedure. Some clients swell more than others. Most will look like they recently had lip fillers injected. Redness is also common and although more rare, bruising can occur.

Do not pick at scabs after your appointment — this may cause scarring and uneven tone as your lip tattoo heals. You can ice them if necessary and/or place petroleum jelly on your lips for relief and protection. You may also consider avoiding intense workouts for a few weeks as your lips heal. Avoid direct sun exposure during this time, too.
